Boxing great Roberto Duran is receiving medical care for a heart problem, his family have said.
The former undisputed world champion, 72, “has suffered a health complication due to an atrioventricular blockade”, they said in a statement.
His family added they are waiting for results before they provide more information on his health.
“We thank our relatives, friends and all of his supporters who are praying for him.”
One of the greatest lightweight boxers of all time, Panamanian Duran held world championships in four weight classes.
He made his professional debut at the age of 16 and later in his career reigned as the undisputed and lineal lightweight champion.

Why does this always happen to the good guys? Duran is a national treasure and he deserves better than this.
Heart problems are very common in retired boxers, especially those who have fought as many wars as Duran. It’s important for him to get the proper medical care and follow his doctor’s orders.
I’m not so sure I believe this, Duran has been known to exaggerate his health problems in the past. Maybe he’s just trying to get attention.
Oh no, the great Roberto Duran is having heart problems? I’m so shocked, I never would have expected this to happen to such a healthy and fit individual.
Maybe Duran just needs to start dating younger women, that’s always good for the heart.
This is just another sign that Duran is old and washed up, he should just retire and save himself the embarrassment.
Duran is a legend and a warrior, he will overcome this and come back stronger than ever!
This is really sad news, Duran is one of my all-time favorite fighters. I hope he gets better soon and doesn’t have any long-term health problems.
