A British man in his 70s suspected of murdering his partner in Italy will be extradited, a court has ruled.
Westminster magistrates ordered the extradition of Michael Whitbread on Wednesday.
Michele Faiers, also a British national, was found stabbed to death at the home she shared with Whitbread near the Italian town of Casoli.
The Italian government accuses Whitbread of killing Ms Faiers on 28 October last year.
The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the ruling after working with Leicestershire Police and the Italian authorities.
Whitbread, who was arrested in Leicestershire, has seven days in which to lodge an application for permission to appeal the decision.
Head of the extradition unit at the CPS, John Sheehan, said: “Our thoughts are primarily with the grieving family of Michele Faiers.
“We ask that there be no speculation about the facts of the case which may be subject to appeal, and so that Michael Whitbread can receive a fair trial in Italy.
“This is an excellent example of the CPS leading domestic and international co-operation in criminal justice.”
I hope the suspect enjoys his stay in an Italian prison. I am sure he will be treated with the same respect and dignity that he showed his victim.
It is a sad day when a man is accused of murdering his partner. It is even sadder when that man is extradited to a foreign country to stand trial. I hope that justice will prevail, but I am not optimistic.
I hope the suspect enjoys his stay in an Italian prison. I am sure he will be treated with the same respect and dignity that he showed his victim.
There has been an alarming increase in the number of violent **crimes against women in recent years. In many cases, the perpetrators are partners or ex-partners of the victims. This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. There are a number of factors that can contribute to violence against women, including gender inequality, poverty, and lack of access to education and employment. It is important to raise awareness of this issue and to work towards creating a more just and equitable society.
This is terrible news. I hope they catch the *** who did this and throw the book at him. Violence against women is never acceptable, and it is especially heinous when it is perpetrated by someone who is supposed to love and protect the victim.
The extradition process can be lengthy and complicated, but I am hopeful that the Italian authorities will be able to bring the suspect to justice. It is important to remember that everyone is entitled to a fair trial, but if the suspect is found guilty, he should be punished to the full extent of the law.
I am not sure what is more ridiculous: the fact that the suspect is being extradited to Italy or the fact that he is being accused of murdering his partner. I mean, who would want to murder their partner? It is the oldest profession in the world.
I am not surprised that the suspect is being extradited to Italy. The UK has a long history of extraditing its citizens to other countries, even when there is no evidence that they have committed a crime. I am sure that the Italian authorities will be able to find a way to convict him, even if he is innocent.
I am not sure why the suspect is being extradited to Italy. The crime was committed in the UK, so it seems like he should be tried in the UK. I am concerned that the Italian authorities may not be able to give him a fair trial.
It is ironic that a man who is accused of murdering his partner is now being extradited to the country where he is alleged to have committed the crime. I wonder if he will be able to find a sympathetic jury in Italy.
The extradition of the suspect to Italy is a travesty of justice. He should be tried in the UK, where he is innocent until proven guilty. I am sure that he will be found guilty in Italy, where the justice system is notoriously corrupt.
